City of Things
City of Things is a Flemish government initiative that supports cities and municipalities in developing and implementing smart urban solutions. The project promotes innovation and technology within the urban landscape, with a focus on advanced technologies.
This initiative helps cities evolve into 'smart cities' by using data-driven decision-making and technological solutions. It addresses urban challenges and improves quality of life. Local governments are encouraged to experiment and develop innovative projects with the support of subsidies and assistance.
In 2018, the Flemish government allocated 4 million euros for City of Things, enabling all Flemish cities and municipalities to seize the opportunity to implement smart city applications. VVSG, in collaboration with the City of Ghent, developed one of these applications called “Databroker.” The animation video explains the results of this application.
